Adoption

I undertook my adoption training with The Albany Centre in January 2024.
My training enables me to work sensitively and ethically with anyone who has an experience of adoption or of being adopted.
If you experienced the adoption process as
a birth mother or father
a person who was adopted
an adoptive parent
a child who’s sibling was adopted
a child with an adopted sibling
a wider family member
You may have questions that you want to try to answer and feelings that you want to explore in a neutral space. I can’t offer answers but I can listen without clouding your thoughts with my own point of view. Saying things out loud, can be cathartic. Getting things off your chest can create space inside you for exploration and more clarity of your thoughts. Exploration of your thoughts, feelings and beliefs can help you to come to your own terms with this enormous life event.
If you were adopted and are considering looking for, or are already looking for, your birth parent / parents and / or family:
I can be a confidential, supportive person with whom you can explore the potential impact of this on yourself and the people around you. I can help you to navigate the formation of new relationships with your birth family or the disappointment if things don’t go to plan.
If you are thinking of placing your baby into the adoption system:
I have awareness of some of the thoughts and feelings that might be impacting you as you make this decision. I am able to support you without judgment so you can make the best decision for yourself and your child.
If you are considering adopting a child:
I have an understanding of the process of adoption although I do not help with the actual practical form filling I can help with the emotional side of the process.
Depending on your needs you might choose to have weekly counselling sessions or to engage in less frequent supportive conversations.
